ABOUT THE ARTIST

Yvonne’s passion for art has been a constant throughout her life. Her early career in architecture sharpened her skills in observation, structure, and the drawing of urban environments. Yet, a quiet longing for a more mindful, nature-centered life never left her. Over time, she transitioned to painting, developing her own distinctive approach through years of practice and exploration. Today, she exhibits and sells her work at the Leaping Hare Gallery in Easingwold and at art fairs across the country.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

To stand before a landscape is to be in awe of both beauty and scale—how small we are within the vastness of the world. A view is never fixed; it is alive, constantly shifting with the light, the hour, and the weather.

In my work, I explore these transformations through the layering of colour and texture. Beneath the greens of the earth or the shimmer of reflected water lie hidden tones—the colours of memory. They are not always visible to the eye, but they linger in the mind, shaped by the feeling of a moment. These are the colours of peace, contentment, and solitude.

Each gesture in my process reflects nature’s presence: a brushstroke becomes a step across the land, a flick of paint a sudden rainfall, the carve of a palette knife a wrinkle in the bark of an ancient tree. The textures invite you to look again and again, always discovering something new.

My paintings are an acknowledgment of fragility—our own and that of the fleeting moments we experience. Nature will endure long after us, and what I aim to capture is not the tangible, but a delicate suspension of time: fragments of memory, feeling, and place held within paint.

PROCESS

Yvonne's latest mixed-media works evolve in three stages: beginning with a marble dust and acrylic base, moving through layers of acrylic painting, and finally enriched with oils.
